KIT CHEM LE CHATELIERS PRINCIPLE

Observe a dynamic equilibrium and Le Chatelier’s principle in action while studying 4 different reactions. By adding acid or base, or by changing the temperature of a substance, students see how the equilibrium shifts to reactants or products. In the final activity, students approximate the Ka of acetic acid. Students write balanced chemical equations and equilibrium expressions, and they learn how Le Chatelier’s principle made possible the Haber process for producing ammonia. The use of everyday materials such as tea, starch, and milk of magnesia makes this lab safer than most Le Chatêlier activities. Materials are sufficient for 30 students working in 10 groups of 3.
