APPARATUS ALPHA SCATTERING

Demonstration of Rutherford scattering by means of a gravitational analog of the inverse square law repulsion. Comprises a wooden launching lamp about 30x5x10cm (LxWxH) with a guiding groove running down its curved front face along its length. With index marks at 40, 60, 80 and 100mm height above the base that provides 4 pre-determined launching heights. Includes a spun aluminium hill about 28cm diameter and 6cm height along with a 19mm metal ball. The shape of aluminium hill has been carefully determined by varying its height above the base line by an amount arrived on the basis of the reciprocal of the radius.
